TOPIC: First ever Lao Airlines flight to Singapore takes

First ever Lao Airlines flight to Singapore takes 5 years, 8 months ago #1320

Vientiane (Vientiane Times/ANN) - Lao Airlines' first ever direct flight to Singapore is scheduled for take-off this afternoon with 135 lucky passengers on board the 142-seat Airbus 320.
The airline is optimistic the new Vientiane-Singapore sector will meet with the same success as its other international and domestic routes.
The official opening of the Vientiane-Singapore-Vientiane flight will take place in Singapore on Friday, attended by Lao government officials and representatives from Lao Airlines and Singapore's Changi Airport.
Regular flights are scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
Vice President of Lao Airlines Sengpraseuth Mathouchanh said on Tuesday "By opening the Vientiane-Singapore route we plan to increase Lao Airlines' global links, and also promote Laos to the world."
"Our target now is not only to try to service more overseas routes, but importantly our vision is to improve our service and ensure our passengers' safety, satisfaction and happiness on board."
"We are confident that the number of passengers taking our direct flight from Vientiane to Singapore will rise, especially as there are more Singaporean business operators and travellers coming to Laos," he added.
"Our next overseas routes will be Japan and the Republic of Korea. To start with, we will only offer charter flights. Passengers can benefit from a cheaper rate through a bulk ticket order and tickets will not be available on an individual basis."
Sengpraseuth said that even though the new sector is not yet operational, more than 50 percent of seats had been booked on some flights. Sunday's Singapore to Vientiane flight is already fully booked.
According to Lao Airlines, the second Airbus 320 ordered from France will arrive at Wattay International Airport on December 3 and will go into service on December 5.
The two new Airbuses will fly on round trips on the Vientiane-Bangkok, Vientiane-Pakxe-Ho Chi Minh, Vientiane-Hanoi and Vientiane-Kunming sectors, and on the Vientiane-Luang Prabang domestic route.
Lao Airlines signed a purchase agreement for the two aircraft with Airbus in August.
Banque pour le Commerce Exterieur Lao Public loaned Lao Airlines US$71 million for the purchase of the aircraft and the Bank of the Lao PDR provided an additional US$20 million to complete the US$91 million acquisition.
Lao Airlines reopened its Vientiane-Xishuangbanna (Yunnan province, China) sector in July after the route was closed a few years ago due to low passenger numbers.
Lao Airlines operates domestic routes from Vientiane to Bokeo, Luang Namtha, Oudomxay, Luang Prabang, Xieng Khuang, Savannakhet and Pakxe, and also to major cities in neighbouring countries, namely Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hanoi, and Siem Reap.
